In-form trainer Marc Conners believes his dynamic winter duo Mossurmi and Mr Clangtastic will both be hard to hold out at Randwick on Saturday even if the track is not heavy.

The track in Sydney's eastern suburbs was rated slow on Tuesday but could improve with the forecast mostly fine with a chance of showers later in the week.

The pair ran at Randwick on July 11 with Mr Clangtastic annihilating his opposition by 8-1/4 lengths while Mossurmi was beaten a half-neck by Gergis later in the day on the heavy (9) track.

Four-year-old Mossurmi has a return bout with the Peter Snowden-trained Gergis in a 1800-metre Open Handicap.

Mossurmi has won four of his last six starts and will be aimed at the Coffs Harbour Cup (1600m) on August 6 if he runs well at Randwick.

"I think it could get up to dead for Saturday but Mossurmi doesn't need a bog track to perform, he's won on a good and three on dead so it's of no concern if it is better than heavy," Conners said.

Only nine runners were nominated for Mossurmi's race and Conners expects Gergis to again be the horse to beat.

"Gergis had a much easier run coming into the straight and I'm very happy with the way Mossurmi has trained on and expect him to run very well again," Conners said.

Mr Clangtastic, who runs in a 2400-metre Rating 91 Handicap, has never won on anything better than slow but has been placed on a dead track at Rosehill over 2000 metres.

"Now that he's racing over more suitable distances he's more comfortable and I think he'll handle better going," Conners said.

"He's up against pretty much the same opposition as last time and will be hard to stop."

Five-year-old Mr Clangtastic's last-start win at Randwick gave him consecutive victories following his 3-3/4 length triumph at Rosehill a week earlier.

Stablemate Mandlikova, a last-start winner at Randwick on July 8, runs on the Kensington track on Wednesday.

Another win would see Conners steer the Beautiful Crown filly towards a black-type race.

"She's done very well since her last start and I'm expecting her to go well again," Conners said.

"A race like the Silver Shadow could be on the cards if she continues to do well."

The Group Three Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) is at Randwick on August 22.
