Trainer Clarry Conners is getting excited about the prospects of a fifth Golden Slipper with Georgette Silk stamping her quality with victory in the Widden Stakes.

Conners rates Georgette Silk the equal of any two-year-old filly he has trained, high praise given that Burst went on from her 1992 Golden Slipper win to take the triple crown.

Saturday's Listed Widden (1100m) was the second start for the filly who finished runner-up to Beneteau on Australia Day with the Paul Messara-trained colt the favourite for both the Blue Diamond and the Golden Slipper.

"She is a really good horse and the best two-year-old I've had in a long time," Conners said.

"She is not wound up yet and I'm trying to nurse her along and look after her.

"I was disappointed when she got beaten at her first start, I thought she would win and I was hoping that colt (Beneteau) wasn't as good as he is, but he's a pretty good horse."

Beneteau went on to win the Blue Diamond Prelude to earn favouritism for next weekend's Group One in Melbourne and shoot to the top of the Slipper market.

Blake Shinn picked up the ride when Hugh Bowman could not make the 54kg and took the filly to front from the barrier.

He slowed the pace mid-race and then asked her for another effort with Georgette Silk kicking clear of Mafia Miss to win by 1-1/2 lengths.

"I liked the way she settled when Blake just got her to come back and relax and she relaxed, put her head down and went lovely," Conners said.

"We're Golden Slipper-bound now."

The Silver Slipper and the Kindergarten Stakes are the options Conners is considering for the filly's next start.

The Kindergarten Stakes in three weeks is also the plan for Mafia Miss who was also having her second race start after finishing runner-up to Gybe in the Gimcrack Stakes in the spring.

"She ran very well under the circumstances on a borderline heavy track," trainer Grahame Begg said.

"She wasn't disgraced and we'll give her the opportunity to get into the Slipper."
