Black Prince showed he has come a long way from the horse that trainer Joe Pride once described as a "cat" when he landed his sixth consecutive victory on Wednesday and booked himself a tilt at Group One glory next month.
Pride will aim the four-year-old at the Group Three Star Kingdom Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on March 21 before running him in the Group One The Galaxy over the same distance at Randwick on April 11.
Black Prince ($2.80) scored a three-quarters of a length all-the-way win over $2.50 favourite Pins On Parade in the Premium Beverages Welter (1100m) at Canterbury.
The race was transferred from last Thursday night's meeting which was abandoned after just two races because of a power blackout.
Pride said maturity was the key to the great form of Black Prince who took four races to break his maiden status.
"I thought this horse was a cat before he won his maiden but the penny has dropped and he's not a cat anymore," Pride said.
"I'm not sure if we're aiming too high with him by going to The Galaxy but he deserves it, he's racing so well and this was the perfect start to his preparation."
Black Prince's victory gave Nash Rawiller a winning double after he steered Gooree Pastoral Syndicate debutant New Day Rising to victory in the www.slipper.com.au Handicap (1100m).
The Gai Waterhouse-trained colt is a half-brother to talented stablemate Swift Alliance.
Rawiller's good run didn't last long after he fell from Bright Mind one stride after the start in the next race, the Bacardi Breezer And Beelgara Handicap (1900m).
Rawiller came away unscathed but a little embarrassed that he couldn't stay on the five-year-old whose trainer Chris Waller told stewards the horse stood on itself.
"I stayed on More Joyous when she buckjumped in the Silver Slipper but I couldn't stay on this one," he said.
The Toby Edmonds-trained Conquering Queen will be steered towards next month's Listed PJ Bell Stakes (1200m) after she kept her unbeaten record intact with a commanding all-the-way victory in the Jim Beam And Jacobs Creek Sparkling Handicap (1100m).
Trainer John O'Shea is eyeing off next month's Group One AJC Australian Oaks (2400m) with Jessicabeel after she won the Woodstock Bourbon And De Bortoli Wines Handicap (1550m).
"We'll go to the Oaks via the Adrian Knox Stakes," O'Shea said.
