Newcastle trainer Paul Perry will add another chapter to his colourful career when he heads to Ipswich to start Prince Braeman in the Listed Eye Liner Stakes on Saturday.

Perry was the pioneer of Australian trainers to head to Royal Ascot seven years ago with his bold gamble to send his former star Choisir overseas to take on the cream of Europe's best sprinters.

It's now history that Perry's gamble paid off in spades when Choisir won the King's Stand Stakes and Golden Jubilee before finishing second in the Group One July Handicap at Newmarket.

Perry's success was the forerunner for repeat Australian triumphs at Royal Ascot with Takeover Target (2006), Miss Andretti (2007) and Scenic Blast (2009).

However, Nicconi and Gold Trail were unable to emulate their successes when both were outgunned in Tuesday's King's Stand.

Perry has only been to Ipswich once before but has never had a runner at the Ipswich Cup meeting.

"I had a runner at Ipswich many years ago at a midweek meeting but we didn't have any luck and I've never been there on Cup day," he said.

"But I'll be there with Prince Braeman on Saturday and hopefully our luck will be a bit better."

Perry sent Prince Braeman to Brisbane for the winter hoping to qualifying the five-year-old for last week's Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

However, Prince Braeman only made it into the field as third emergency and missed a start in the Group One feature won for the second time by Black Piranha.

Prince Braeman justified Perry's decision to send him north when the son of Mossman scored a convincing win in the Listed Chief De Beers (1110m) at Doomben last month.

It took his record to nine wins from 27 starts with prizemoney earnings of more than $385,000.

Danny Nikolic will also make a rare trip to Ipswich to ride Prince Braeman who received 57 kilograms for Saturday's 1350-metre feature, a kilogram less than topweight Skiddaw Peak.

The Listed Ipswich Cup (2150m) received three late inclusions after nominations were extended to bring the total entries to 15.

They were Victorian Baughurst, who was allotted topweight of 58.5kg, and Lander and Dubai Magic who are on the 53kg minimum.

Baughurst has failed in three of his four starts this winter including a 14th to Crossthestart in the Group Two Brisbane Cup (2400m) at Eagle Farm last Saturday.

His best winter performance was when he finished a close fourth to Triple Honour in the Group Two Eagle Farm Cup (2200m) on June 5 after being blocked for a run.
