Gai Waterhouse will aim improving sprinter Bhutane Dane at the Group One race named for her late father, the TJ Smith Stakes, following his graduation to stakeswinner at Randwick on Saturday.

The three-year-old won the Listed Strada Stakes (1200m) in fine style when he burst through to beat Ahdashim by a head with New Zealander Fully Fledged another long neck back third.

Waterhouse said Bhutane Dane could also contest the Group One Galaxy (1100m) on April 11, a week before the TJ Smith (1200m).

"He was a good thing beaten in the Magic Millions Trophy and has the makings of a lovely horse," Waterhouse said.

"We will aim him at the two big sprint races over the carnival."

The win brought up a treble for Nash Rawiller after his victories on Manhattan Rain and Newport, leading owner Nick Vass to declare he was better than any of his peers.

"Nash is the best rider in Australia, he does a magnificent job," Vass said.

Trainer Gerald Ryan will not be aiming the runner-up too high but Fully Fledged will take on a cracking field in next week's Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill.

"That was a great run, as good as winning," co-trainer Bjorn Baker said.

"He needed the run and will back up in the Phar Lap.

"It makes up for a bad week."

Baker had to farewell Nom Du Jeu from Sydney this week with the 2008 AJC Australian Derby winner out of form and back in a New Zealand paddock.
