The Magic Millions Classic drought could soon be over for trainer Barry Baldwin and jockey Danny Craven following another ultra impressive victory from talented filly Racing Pegasus at Doomben.
Racing Pegasus made light work of her opposition in Saturday's Reflection Cleaning Handicap (1110m) trouncing First Option by three lengths.
Baldwin has never had a starter in the 1200-metre Gold Coast feature which will be run on January 10 while Craven has ridden in the race only once.
Craven, who returned three months ago from a nine-month stint in Korea, agreed with Baldwin who declared the daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus an ideal type for the Magic Millions Classic.
Racing Pegasus, who went into the race in equal eighth on the qualifying order for the Magic Millions, led throughout giving Craven an armchair ride in front.
"She's definitely in the race now but she still needs to improve more and she's doing it," Baldwin said.
"At least she's got early pace and has got some stamina at the finish.
"She's the type of filly who won't be worried by the pressure the Magic Millions is renowned for every year. She finds something every time she's put under pressure."
Baldwin was reluctant to confirm Craven would ride Racing Pegasus in the Magic Millions until he conferred with the filly's owners.
However, Steve Foster, who owns a quarter share in the filly immediately declared Craven would retain the ride.
"Danny hasn't done anything wrong so he'll ride her," said Foster, a retired builder.
Racing Pegasus cost $45,000 at the Magic Millions yearling sales and has now earned $64,000 in prizemoney after maintaining her unbeaten record from two starts.
Craven believes Racing Pegasus will be ideally suited when she steps up in distance to the 1200 metres in the Magic Millions Classic.
"It will be good to ride her next month and 1200 metres will be perfect for her," he said.
"She led easily but I could easily have pulled her back to take a trail.
"She's very knew and is still quite green but she's a very intelligent filly."
Runner-up First Option impressed her trainer Ron Maund with her finishing effort but the filly is not a graduate of the Magic Millions sales and is ineligible for the two-year-old feature.
