Trainer Barry Baldwin hopes to have a little more luck with Simplest at Eagle Farm than he has had getting Burdekin Blues to Melbourne for the Lightning Stakes.

Simplest will be Baldwin's only Eagle Farm runner on Saturday when the entire lines up in the Sponsorship@BRC Open Handicap (1000m).

Baldwin's patience is wearing thin after trying three times to send Burdekin Blues south for the 1000m Lightning at Flemington on Saturday week.

He originally planned to send Burdekin Blues by float to Melbourne last week but cancelled the trip because of heatwave conditions in Victoria then a minor leg injury forced him to abort a flight on Monday.

Baldwin hoped to organise another flight early next week for Burdekin Blues until he discovered there was no available plane on his preferred day, Tuesday.

"It's the first time in seven years there's no flights out of Brisbane on Tuesday because it's Australia Day," Baldwin said.

"I'm running out of time and it's not ideal but if I can't get him on a plane sooner he'll have to go on Wednesday."

Burdekin Blues is owned by Ingham grazier Tom Sheahan who also races Simplest.

Simplest is a short course specialist with four wins and three placings over 1000 metres and has a superb record of three wins and a second from four starts at Eagle Farm.

The five-year-old was sent to Townsville to continue his career last year but has returned to Baldwin's stables after a lack of interest from north Queensland stud farms to have him stand as a stallion.

"Tom sent him up north hoping he would stand at stud somewhere but there wasn't much interest in him so he's come back to me," Baldwin said.

"Had he won a black-type race somewhere I'm sure a few of those studs up north would have picked him up.

"He had two starts in the north winning a weight-for-age race at his first start but he went ordinary at his only other run in Townsville."

Baldwin believes Simplest has improved following two runs since rejoining his stable.

The son of Choisir finished a creditable seventh, beaten just over three lengths by Warrior Girl in the Magic Millions Sprint (1000m) at the Gold Coast on January 9.

"He ran a touch better last time and he's starting to toughen up again," Baldwin said.

"He'll go well but I'm already conceding the race to Azzaland on his second behind Burdekin Blues in the Bat Out Of Hell."
