Durable Godolphin stayer Lost In The Moment, a regular fixture in Melbourne over the last two Spring Racing Carnivals, will open his 2013 account in tonight’s (AET) Listed Fred Archer Stakes (2400m) at Newmarket (UK).

Not seen since his admirable fifth placing behind current TAB Melbourne Cup favourite Puissance De Lune in last year’s Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m) at Flemington, Lost In The Moment was an impressive sixth, beaten only three lengths, behind Dunaden in the 2011 Cup.

The six-year-old resumes in the five-horse event at Newmarket, where he’ll meet the Alain de Royer Dupre-trained I’m Your Man and classy stayer Harris Tweed, who has carried entries for Melbourne features over the past two years, but has not travelled down under.

“Lost In the Moment has performed well here before and would definitely be in the mix again this year so I’ll be looking for a forward showing tonight to confirm that he has come back well,” Racing Victoria’s International Recruitment Officer, Leigh Jordon, said.

Whilst interest in Lost In The Moment remains high, it’s another talented stayer that sits atop Jordon’s wish list from the Godolphin stable for this year’s BMW Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup.

Opinion Poll and Colour Vision are the stable’s headline stayers and class acts, but Willing Foe is the one I’d really like to see in Melbourne this Spring because he’s an exciting prospect that would carry less weight,” Jordon said.

“He won last year’s Ebor Handicap, but the stable felt he wasn’t quite mature enough to travel then. He’s since returned with an impressive first-up win over Harris Tweed and he gives the impression that the Melbourne Cup would suit him.

“He might be the horse to provide Godolphin with that elusive Melbourne Cup or give them a second Caulfield Cup if he continues to progress throughout the European summer.”

Global racing giant Godolphin have yet to taste ultimate success in the Melbourne Cup with four minor placings over the past 15 years, but have tasted success before with the likes of All The Good in the 2008 BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m).

Dual Ascot Gold Cup runner-up Opinion Poll, who will return from a ban before the Spring Carnival, and 2012 winner Colour Vision remain high on Jordon’s Godolphin watch list, as does the promising Songcraft and Sportingbet Cox Plate invitee Farhh.

Twice Group 1 placed behind the mighty Frankel last season, Farhh has been sidelined with injury since his impressive win in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes (2000m) at Newbury on 18 May.

“Farhh is obviously a quality animal and boasts some of top European weight-for-age form lines so we’re still holding out hope he can overcome his setback and accept an invitation to contest $3 million Cox Plate,” Jordon said.

“It’s probably a longshot given his setback, but I’m looking forward to speaking with the Godolphin’s Racing Manager Simon Crisford when I’m in Europe next month about the stable’s plans for the Spring Racing Carnival.”
