Bad news for Danny....Melbourne jockey Danny Nikolic has been banned from riding for two years after being found guilty of threatening Racing Victoria's chief steward last month. Nikolic, 37, was charged following an incident at the Seymour races on September 4 when chief steward Terry Bailey claimed he was threatened by the Caulfield Cup-winning jockey - a claim that Nikolic denied. He is expected to immediately launch an appeal before the Victorian Administrative Appeals Tribunal in the hope he can ride later this year. The case could go to the High Court. Racing Victoria stewards told the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board that Nikolic should be banned for a number of years for the alleged threats against Bailey and his family.

Aussie jockeys Zac Purton, Tye Angland and Tim Clark are off to a flying start in the new Hong Kong racing season. They've ridden 19 winners between them so far - Purton 8, Angland 6 and Clark 5. Brett Prebble has 3 winners and HK champion Douglas Whyte is in 4th spot with 4 winners.

Top NZer Choice Bro, by leading Australian sire Choisir, will not race again this year. He has a hairline fracture of the cannon bone. Vets say he has to be isolated for an extended period and spend several months rehabilitating in a water-walker. Trainer John Sargent is hopeful Choice Bro, a Grp 1 winner as a 2YO last season, can return to racing in the autumn of 2013.
