Do Melbourne's stewards have Danny Nikolic in their sights? Are they treating him unfairly in the wake of their recent failed case against him? These questions are raised after stewards rubbed him out for 13 meetings at Caulfield on Saturday. The Melbourne Herald Sun reports: 'Danny Nikolic and Racing Victoria's Terry Bailey clashed heatedly last night after the jockey was suspended on a careless riding charge. Nikolic walked from the stewards room following an animated discussion after he was charged with careless riding on Schilling in the last race of the meeting. "I just expect that from you, Terry," he said. Bailey told him stewards blamed him for interference that saw Luke Nolen's mount Macedonian almost fall about the 300m mark, but acknowledged there were contributing factors. Nikolic insisted his role in the interference was minimal at best. He told stewards his horse shifted about half a horse and there had been a shift from horses on his outside. He said he made no contact to Tan Tat Baby, ridden by Jordan Mallyon, and Mallyon told stewards there had been no contact from Nikolic's horse in a chain of events that saw Macedonian almost fall.'

Danny Nikolic intends to lodge an appeal against the suspension. The Melbourne Herald-Sun says: 'Outside the steward's room, Nikolic said he was exasperated by the treatment of the stewards, particularly Bailey. "I'll definitely be appealing. This is not right," he said.
