Is trainer John McNair being over-optimistic in his claim that injured Hay List will be OK to run in Friday night's William Reid at Moonee Valley? Well, that's the big question following McNair's revelation that the great sprinter has a bruised heel. McNair told stewarads he's confident the horse will improve in time for the big Grp 1 sprint. Stewards, of course, will have Hay List inspected on Thursday afternoon. McNair was seen walking Hay List at Balnarring Beach on the Mornington Peninsula on Wednesday morning, but he was unavailable for comment. The scuttlebutt - and there's plenty of it - says Hay List's injury is not minor. Currently, Hay List - the world's #2 sprinter - is at 5/2 ON to win the William Reid.

After his superb win in the Newcastle Newmarket, He's Remarkable will now go to the Grp 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on April 7 before tackling his main autumn target, the Grp 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick 14 days later. Trainer Roger James says: 'He'll harden up with that run...I didn't give him a trial coming into this so he'll take plenty of improvement from the run." He's Remarkable is now a $17 chance for the Doncaster after being $51 before his Newcastle success.

Pulling the plug...Warwick Farm trainer Ron Leemon has decided to end the autumn campaign of his star 3YO Manawanui. He wants to protect the horse for the future. Leemon says: 'He had a gut-busting run in the Randwick Guineas and I don't want to overdo it...I want to ensure he is right for the spring carnival.'
