It's official...Ace sprinter Hay List - battling colic and injury - will be officially scratched from next week's $1 million Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm. Trainer John McNair has told Qld stewards he will not press on towards the Grp I sprint with the star sprinter. Let's face it, McNair has no choice. Hay List is in a bad way. There's doubt that he will race again.

Not surprisingly, John McNair is remaining optimistic about Hay List's future. He says Hay List will go back to NSW shortly and will be spelled for 8 to 10 weeks. He adds: 'He needs it...OK, he will miss the Manikato Stakes later in the year, I suppose, but if Black Caviar turned up we couldn't have beaten her anyway...But you might be surprised -- we might even attempt other distances. We could have a 1400m race with Hay List and More Joyous -- that would bring people to the races. But let's just wait and get him home.' The big question that will loom when Hay List returns is this: How good will he be? Will the serious colic and the severe hoof injury blunt his speed?
