Star sprinter Hay List continues to make improvement at the Randwick Equine Centre where he is being treated for a leg infection.

Trainer John McNair is optimistic about his future and leaves on Monday for a trip to Hong Kong and Singapore to check out facilities in anticipation of Hay List competing on the international stage.

"He is doing a lot better and I'm glad he is where he is while I'm away," McNair said.

"I'm going to Hong Kong and Singapore to look at the quarantine facilities and hopefully Hay List will be racing there.

"He is on a different anti-biotic and hopefully they can get to the heart of the problem."

Hay List missed the Group One Doomben 10,000 a month ago due to the infection which has lingered since.

He was transported from McNair's Central Coast stable to Sydney on Friday.

"We decided we were better off sending him to the Randwick Equine Centre. They have got everything you need as far as scanning the horse is concerned," the trainer said.

Hay List has won two Group One races this season but has had to settle for second in three others behind champion Black Caviar.

While Hay List will be sidelined for some time, his younger half brother is set to make his city debut at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Sound Of The Ocean scored a narrow win at his first start at Gosford earlier this month.

"He has a lot to live up to," McNair said.

"I liked to way he hit the line at his first start, he has the right attitude.

"He's about two thirds of the size of the other one, well at least a hundred kilos lighter.

"He's a nice size and a nice horse."

Hay List hits the scales at around 600kg.
