The Dream Team of Douglas Whyte and John Size sounded a warning they were hitting full stride with a four-timer and that should continue in the St Andrew's Challenge Quaich (1,650m) at Happy Valley tonight with Classic Jewellery.

Size and Whyte combine only twice on tonight's card, but Classic Jewellery looks to have one of the Class Three trophies at his mercy after a big return from his summer break.

As a three-year-old, Classic Jewellery won on debut, then didn't seem to cope with the demands of racing, with his other five runs punctuated at times by some sizeable breaks. He still managed a couple of solid placings, including a second to Sea Diamond when Classic Jewellery was forced to make a long run around the leaders.

He should be tougher and stronger now and he put the writing on the wall for an early win as a four-year-old when he rattled home for second to Victor Delight over this course and distance.

That was his first attempt at the city course and the winner had a tactical advantage on him, parked in the one-one trail, while Classic Jewellery was three pairs back on the rail.

That allowed the winner to get first run, while Classic Jewellery had to wait for him to go in order to get clear but the Size-trained gelding got to work once clear and charged late to run the margin to a short head. With a regular lead runner, Good Luck Win, the only horse on his inside, Whyte should have no trouble parking behind the lead ready to issue his challenge on straightening. (www.racing.scmp.com)
