The John Size-trained Sichuan Success has long promised to become a top liner and gets a great opportunity to break into the big time in the Group Three Prince Jewellery & Watch Premier Cup (1,400m) at Sha Tin today. It is a classic showdown with young, untapped talents like Sichuan Success (Douglas Whyte) and Leading City (Jeff Lloyd) thrown in against proven runners including Sunny King (Darren Beadman) and Able One (Olivier Doleuze), who are getting on in years and have to give away big parcels of weight.

The final Group race of the season has been run four times previously, and with winners Egyptian Ra for David Hall (2007), Derek Cruz's Joy And Fun in 2009 and the John Moore-trained Able One, trying to grab his third this afternoon after scoring in 2008 and last year, it is a solid honour roll.

But Sichuan Success has looked a quality galloper since his debut in Class Four, and never more so than his latest Class Two victory. After missing an important part of the season due to showing his trainer signs of fatigue in January, the gelding was explosive when he resumed.

He played with some handy opposition, despite a big weight, and Whyte was obviously impressed as he will ride at 115 pounds for only the second time this season - recent plunge winner Real Specialist was the other.
