Destined For Glory put the writing on the wall with his second placing first time out this season and the four-year-old can prove the best of John Moore's powerful duo in the Sa Sa Ladies' Purse (1,800m) today. The race is no pushover, with a small but highly-competitive field and a query over the tempo that promises to make it even trickier to predict, but there are ticks in plenty of boxes for Destined For Glory (Darren Beadman).

Not the least of them is his flashing second behind Ambitious Dragon first-up up in the National Day Cup, flattered to some extent by having carried a light weight and benefiting from the solid pace up front, but it was a run that said the four-year-old has returned from his summer break in good form.

Last season, Destined For Glory looked a horse of some promise who should make his way into the very best races with natural improvement and added acclimatisation this term.

His run first-up over an insufficient 1,400m merely confirmed that view and he should be better for it and for the step up to 1,800m, the same path Moore trod with his dual winner, Viva Macau (2007 and 2008).

Super Pistachio is the only regular leader in the race, likely to be shadowed by only Familists, and there will be little pressure on Matthew Chadwick to set much of a speed on the front runner unless the only lightweight in the race, New Greenfield, is used early to get forward.

A stop and start tempo will count against horses like Moore's Destined For Glory and Jacobee (Tim Clark) in particular, as each horse has shown that he can overrace if things don't go according to his preferences.

Nevertheless, each has still been able to pull out a strong finishing burst even after in those circumstances and coming off a slow tempo, which makes the pair dangerous from low draws.

Jacobee gives Clark a great chance to land a good quality race after the gelding finished off his first-up task faster than Destined For Glory hit the line on the same afternoon. (www.racing.scmp.com)
