Ricky Yiu Poon-fai's London Walk finished down the course at his first local run but left all the clues that a better result will come sooner rather than later and he gets his chance for that in the Wayfoong Centenary Bowl (1,200m) at Happy Valley on Wednesday night, reports the HK Racing Post.

The son of Elusive City had his supporters at double figure odds a month ago on debut but they only finished with the tickets after London Walk (Eddie Lai Wai-ming) had to do too much from a wide barrier in the race over this course won by Both Sure.

Lai surged London Walk (pictured, outside) from barrier eleven in the early stages, crossing the field to find the rail before steadying in the middle stages to let his rival again Wednesday, Spitfire, cross him in turn to take up the front running.

London Walk wasn't able to finish the race off first-up after those early exertions and weakened to be ninth but he was only three lengths from the winner when the judge called a halt.

In Australia, he was a second-up maiden winner at Kilmore from a low draw when ridden off the speed and Wednesday's race sets up for him to be ridden that way again from barrier one. Lai won't have to use the gelding up to find a prominent trailing position before ample speed.

Tomodachi, Spitfire, Regency Champion and General Iron are all going to be pushing forward early, setting a good speed, and the sweet spot is going to be just behind them ready to strike in the final 200m, which is where London Walk should find himself.
