Legendary Dragon surprised most punters winning a week ago at Happy Valley, but the four-year-old returns tonight as the one to beat in the Police Cup (1,200m)Legendary Dragon(Neil Callan) ran a fair race on debut up the straight at Sha Tin, but trainer Ricky Yiu Poon-fai had tried to convince the gelding's owners that Happy Valley was his track.

Second time out, he was able to show how right he was, with the 27-1 chance beating rival Moneymaker (Douglas Whyte), despite having a little bit of work to do over the early part of this course.

From barrier eight, Callan was caught wide going into the first turn, then took a chance on using Legendary Dragon at that stage to get further forward into a two-wide path. He got there but it did have to cost Legendary Dragon a little something at the finish of the race, so his effort to still get home first by a neck was a solid one.

He is back as a very fit horse seven days later, carries just two pounds more in this race and there is a beneficial trade off for a much better draw, gate one, which has often been vital over the "C" course.

For all of that good news, this Class Three feature is a competitive race with six or seven legitimate winning hopes.

One that punters might have overlooked at good odds is Happy Drumming (Eddy Lai Wai-ming). (www.racing.scmp.com)
