Darren Weir will tread a familiar path for Puissance De Lune as they head towards Saturday week’s $3 million Cox Plate, reports TVN's Racing Network. Weir made the trip to Melbourne to trial the big grey horse at Moonee Valley this morning, but he won’t be doing the same thing at the Breakfast With The Stars there next Tuesday.

“He’ll have a session at the sand-dunes at the beach on Sunday and a good gallop at Warrnambool on Tuesday and that will peak him just right for the Cox Plate,” Weir told Racing Network after the horse won his three-horse trial this morning.

“I know he hasn’t won a Group 1 race this preparation but he’s done everything we have asked and nothing has gone wrong.

"We’re getting close to the big ones now,” Weir added.

He said he was very happy with the way Puissance De Lune galloped at Moonee Valley this morning.

“He picked them up pretty quickly when Bossy asked him to.

"This is a beautiful surface to gallop horses on this morning and he really appreciated the going.

"'Bossy' said he was a lot happier with his action on this ground than the other day when it was a bit too hard,” Weir said.
