MELBOURNE Cup favourite Puissance de Lune will kick start his spring campaign in the Peter Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield on August 17. Trainer Darren Weir said Puissance De Lune, winner of the Bendigo Cup and Queen Elizabeth Stakes in explosive fashion during last spring, would have a jump out at Ballarat over 1000 metres a week before the Lawrence Stakes.

Weir said he would discuss with owner Gerry Ryan early next week the full spring program for the former European stayer.

He said form analyst Deane Lester had suggested the Lawrence as an ideal launching race.

“He’s bigger and stronger. He’s still pretty gross, but he’s in great order,” Weir said.
