The official findings into the race fall that left jockey Danny Brereton with spinal injuries concluded yesterday when Mark Zahra was found guilty of careless riding and suspended until January 1, reports The Age/Sydney Morning Herald.

It says: Brereton sustained serious back injuries in a fall from Marquee Player in the Mitchell McKenzie Stakes at Moonee Valley on August 21.

Racing Victoria Ltd stewards yesterday finalised their probe into the incident, with evidence taken from Zahra and fellow jockeys Brent Stanley and James Winks, as well as Brereton via a telephone hook-up.

Brereton said he had the benefit of replays and transcripts of the incident, ''but my first-hand memory of the fall is not good, as you could well understand''.

''But I don't think it was anyone's fault that my mount clipped the heels of a horse in front of me which caused my fall,'' he said.

Stewards disagreed and charged Zahra for allowing his mount Bullbars to roll out at a critical stage when Brereton's mount was beginning to tire.

Zahra said that while there was a small shift, he said it wasn't a ''sharp'' move out. Stewards found Zahra guilty of careless riding and took into account his guilty plea. He will be allowed to fulfil his engagements at Caulfield today.
