SARAH Rawiller will always be welcome at barrier draws, Chris Waller probably won't go to one again and Grahame Begg is close to banning his stable from them altogether after yesterday's Doncaster Mile barrier draw, reports The Age.
It says: Rawiller, the wife of champion jockey Nash, was asked by John Singleton, owner of More Joyous, to draw the barrier for the favourite for Saturday's Doncaster. ''You're off your head,'' Nash told his wife after she agreed.
But Rawiller was delighted when Sarah drew eight, the exact gate he had requested in the car on his way to Randwick.
''I wanted to do it myself, so I had no one to blame for it,'' Rawiller said. ''Now I will have no one to blame because it is perfect.''
Tension filled the Emirates marquee as More Joyous's name came out seventh in the draw and when Sarah drew gate eight she received the only round of applause during the draw. It came from one very happy husband.
''It was a bit quiet in the car on the way here,'' Sarah said. ''I was trying to stay positive. He told me seven or eight and I got one of them.''
