It was only fitting that the Group I ATC Coolmore Classic should be won by the progeny of a Coolmore based sire with Encosta de Lago mare Aloha delivering victory for leviathan owner breeder Gerry Harvey, reports Tara Madgwick of www.breednet.com.au.

Tara's report states: The Mick Price trained mare went into the race with a picket fence next to her name following four successive wins in lesser events in Melbourne and ran right up to that good form in surging clear to beat Jersey Lily by two and a half lengths.

Aloha has the imposing overall record of eight wins and six placings from 17 starts with prizemoney of $764,974 and is the 18th Group I winner for Encosta de Lago.

"It's fantastic. She gave me a great ride," said winning rider Glen Boss.

Her trainer Mick Price wasn't in Sydney to witness the win, but Boss paid special tribute to the astute conditioner following the victory.

"All the credit goes to Mick Price," he said. "It's really nice to get on a winning chance in a group one for him and it's even better to deliver the goods for him.

Boss also said the win was his first feature victory for successful businessman and Magic Millions owner Gerry Harvey, one he described as richly deserved.

"Gerry gave me six months about two years ago but to his credit he rang me after six months and said 'you're back on'," he said. "It's really good that Gerry's got a really valuable mare now because he pumps a lot of money into this industry."

A homebred for Gerry Harvey, Aloha is one of four winners, but the first stakes-winner for her stakes-winning dam Tennessee Midnight, a daughter of champion sire Danehill (USA) from the famed "Tennessee" family that has yielded many stakes-winners over the years.
