The Mick Priced-trained Gruenfeld looked a colt with a bright future after crushing eight overmatched opponents by upwards of eight lengths in a 1000 metre 2yo maiden at Ballarat on Sunday to credit his sire Elvstroem with his sixth winner, reports Breednet.com.au.

It says: Relishing the heavy track, Gruenfeld (Elvstroem x Jewel Theft (Jade Robbery (USA)) cleared away from Guffaw (Happy Giggle) with favourite On Your Mark (More Than Ready) another 2 ¢-lengths back in third.

An encouraging fourth behind the high-class Reward For Effort when backed in to favouritism in the Blue Diamond Preview (LR) at Caulfield in January, Gruenfield resumed with a close up fourth at Bendigo on June 21.

An $80,000 purchase by his trainer from the Baramul Stud consignment at the 2008 Magic Millions Yearling sale, Gruenfeld is the first foal of the Jade Robbery mare Jewel Theft.

A half-sister to Group 2 winner Magically (Danehill), Jewel Theft failed to run a place in her 5 career starts. She does however come from a long line of stakes-winning mares. Her dam, Magic Music (Loosen Up) won the Chirnside Stakes (G2) and the Schweppes Stakes (G2), while her third dam Bow Mistress (Burglar), was a smart racemare in the earlier 80's, earning four stakes wins including the JJ Liston Stakes (G2).

Standing at Blue Gum Farm, international champion Elvstroem has made an encouraging start to his stud career. The son of Danehill currently sits in seventh spot on the first season sires table with his son Carrara earning stakes success in the Listed Doomben Slipper.
After covering a whopping 222 mares in 2007, Elvstroem had his quietist year to date in 2008 serving 79 mares as a result of injury. His fee for 2009 has been dropped from $38,50.
