Thousand Guineas (1600m) runner-up May’s Dream is on track for a tilt at the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville in Adelaide on April 26. An impressive winner of the $130,000 VOBIS Gold Elvstroem Classic (1300m) at Swan Hill as a two-year-old, the daughter of New Approach created a big impression during the Spring Racing Carnival with a fast-finishing Thousand Guineas second behind star filly Guelph.

A very small and light filly during the Spring according to trainer Darren Weir, Weir said the three-year-old has strengthened considerably during her time away from the races.

“She has come on and developed really well during her spell,” Weir said.

“Everything is great with her. She’s been back in work for four weeks now and we’re heading towards Adelaide with her.

“She was immature and light (during the Spring) and she probably needed to go out to the paddock a bit earlier than what she did. The signs were there that she was training off leading up to the Oaks but (owner) Worrall Dunn, who is unfortunately not with us anymore, was keen to run and we pushed on. It was a good result as far as everyone was concerned from that point of view.”

Though Weir is yet to pick out a first up target for May’s Dream, the current Melbourne premiership leading trainer said she was around four weeks away from a return to the track.
