Apprentice Rebecca Williams had a day she'll never forget at Sandown where she landed her first city winner at her first ride in town aboard Alberti.
Williams, 19, apprenticed to her mother Jennifer Williams at Seymour, has ridden 45 winners in the country since she began race riding a year ago.
"It feels unreal," Williams, who hoped she would now start getting more rides in the metropolitan area, said.
Williams combined with former New Zealand trainer Brydon Mills, based at Bendigo, who landed his first Melbourne winner with Alberti ($10) in the Le Pine Funerals Hcp (1300m).
She has ridden the promising promising Bertolini three-year-old gelding in each of his three starts for two wins and a third.
Williams was one of eight female jockeys who rode at the meeting with three of them landing winners.
Lisa Cropp took overall honours with a double aboard the Lyn Tolson-trained Our Poetic Princess ($13) in the 'Like' Caulfield Racing on Facebook Hcp (1300m) and the Eric Musgrove-trained Coronet Bay ($41) in the Whitson and Associates Hcp (1300m).
Rosie Myers, who rode a double at Sandown a week ago, guided the Leon Corstens-trained Melted ($4.80) home a winner in the Ahern's At Highways After The Last Hcp (1400m).
Cropp attributed her success on wet tracks to riding on a long rein.
"Let them find their own way through it is the best way as they save energy and get their own rhythm," she said.
Cropp has a wealth of experience having ridden in 11 different countries, spending six months riding in England and also had a stint in Ireland.
She has ridden 970 winners in New Zealand and also trained a few winners in her home country when recovering after breaking her neck in a fall in Asia.
