Cox Plate winning trainer Mark Kavanagh will turn his attention to the Victoria Derby with Whobegotyou destined to start the shortest priced favourite for many years.
The gelding's price was slashed immediately following his win in Saturday's AAMI Vase (2040m) and he continued to firm to be as short as $1.60 with TAB Sportsbet and Sportingbet Australia.
Centrebet turned him in from $2.30 to $1.70 with punters rallying behind Whobegotyou.
"We have taken scores of bets on him in the last 24 hours, and by the time you couple in the Derby-Melbourne Cup doubles, Whobegotyou could end up costing us millions," Centrebet's Neil Evans said.
"Smart punters backed him to win the Derby before yesterday's race when he was $2.30. That now looks a "giveaway" price on a once-in-a-generation three-year-old who, unlike many in this year's Derby field, will run out a strong 2500 metres."
The second favourite is Norman Robinson winner Pre Eminence who did not run against Whobegotyou in either the Caulfield Guineas or the Vase."
But rival trainers haven't conceded the 2500m Derby with Sydney's Guy Walter happy with the way Orca finished his race off in the Vase to run 2-1/4 lengths third.
"The winner came from off the pace and I was pleased with the way Orca went to the line," Walter said.
"He is improving with every run and showed a lot of stamina so the plan is to keep going to the Derby."
Orca was today at $18 with TAB Sportsbet and would be aiming to break his maiden in the Derby while Whobegotyou has won five of his seven starts.
The last six Victoria Derby winners came through the Vase with Efficient (2006), Plastered (2004) and Helenus (2002) winning both races.
Helenus was the last odds-on favourite at $1.90 in the Victoria Derby where he had to fight hard to beat Hydrometer by a short half head.
Jockey Michael Rodd said Whobegotyou was such a relaxed horse it was hard to see him not handling the Derby trip.
As well as the Cox Plate and the Vase, Kavanagh and Rodd combined to take out the Group Two Crystal Mile with Sea Battle who did his early racing in Sydney with Walter.
Kavanagh said Maldivian would not run in the Mackinnon Stakes on Saturday while Oaks contender Cats Whisker was a doubtful start in the fillies' classic on Thursday week.
