Queensland Derby contender Bid Spotter will have a crucial workout at Randwick on Tuesday to determine whether he heads to Brisbane this weekend or runs at home.

Trainer Graeme Rogerson said the three-year-old would have his final Derby lead-up in either the Rough Habit Plate at Doomben or a 2000m restricted race on his home track.

"Jimmy (Casssidy) will ride him in a gallop in the morning and I'll make up my mind after that," Rogerson said.

"He will definitely run on Saturday in either the Rough Habit or at Randwick.

"The Grand Prix the week after is just a week before the Derby and I really want him to have two weeks into the race."

A couple of months ago Rogerson and his fellow owners made the difficult decision to geld Bid Spotter who is by Redoute's Choice out of the Rogerson-trained Group One winner Isolde.

Since they sacrificed Bid Spotter's stud career he has repaid them with consecutive victories over 1800 and 1900 metres, the most recent at Canterbury on April 28.

"He is a different horse now and is really showing what he can do," Rogerson said.

"I think he will be very competitive in the Derby."

Bid Spotter was one of 28 nominations for the Rating 81 race at Randwick with the same number entered in the Group Three Rough Habit Plate.

Rogerson also has one of the leading contenders for the Queensland Oaks in Awesome Planet who won Saturday's traditional lead-up, the Doomben Roses.

It was the first Australian start for Awesome Planet who has done the rest of her racing out of Rogerson's New Zealand stable.

The form around her across the Tasman has already been proven with Daffodil's success in the AJC Australian Oaks.

Roses runner-up Estee beat Daffodil and Awesome Planet to win the Group Three Lowland Stakes (2100m) in February.

Awesome Planet missed the New Zealand Oaks won by Jungle Rocket in March when her float was involved in an accident on the way to the track.

She was unharmed and Rogerson said he was certain she would be at her peak over the 2400 metres of the Oaks on May 30.

"She is a very tough filly and I think the run in the Doomben Roses will only improve her going towards the Oaks," he said.

Awesome Planet capped a big day's racing for the Rogerson stable which also had three winners at Canterbury including two-year-old More Than Cash who is Brisbane bound.

"It was a very tradesman-like win and he is getting better with racing," Rogerson said.

"He is entered for the Sires and the TJ Smith in Brisbane and I think he can measure up."
