Queensland Derby contender Bid Spotter was originally set to race in Brisbane on Saturday, but unfortunately for some he turned up at Randwick.

The Graeme Rogerson-trained three-year-old was to be floated north on Tuesday to run in the Group Three Rough Habit Plate at Doomben but Queensland's wild weather resulted in a change to Plan-B, the SCCF Ken Callander Fellowship Handicap (2000m) at Randwick.

Ridden by Hugh Bowman, Bid Spotter, who started at $6, was pushed to fourth near the 400 metres before finishing strongly to defeat Lacada Siren by a length with the Rogerson-trained Relentless Lad a half head away third.

Trainer Kris Lees admitted Bid Spotter's win was almost certain to cost Lacada Siren a place in next Saturday's Group One Queensland Oaks (2400m).

Rather than Lacada Siren adding $42,000 to her prizemoney she added $13,300.

But Lees said connections would pay up for the Oaks.

"She probably won't have enough prizemoney. I wish Bid Spotter did make it up there," Lees said.

Rogerson's stable foreman Roger Elliott said they couldn't take the risk of floating the horse to Queensland only to get stuck halfway there or miss a run.

"We were worried about the weather, if he didn't run it would have been three weeks without one and that was a huge concern going into the Derby without enough miles in his legs," Elliott said.

Bid Spotter, who was gelded over the summer, has added two consecutive victories since he scored on the Kensington track at Randwick on April 13.

The decision to geld Bid Spotter was not taken lightly as he is a son of Redoute's Choice out of Group One winner Isolda, but it has reaped rewards.

"He's improved heaps this horse, he's going so well," Elliott said.

Elliott admitted he was concerned when Bid Spotter was a bit closer to the lead than expected on straightening.

"We weren't sure what he (Bowman) was doing but in the end he must have known the horse was going good," Elliott said.

Bowman, who took over from regular rider Jim Cassidy who was riding in Brisbane, said the veteran hoop told him Bid Spotter was all class.

"Jimmy said that he is a Group One horse and if anybody knows what a Group One horse feels like it's Jimmy and I reckon he was right, this horse has a very bright future," Bowman said.

The Group One Queensland Derby (2400m) is at Eagle Farm on June 6.

The win gave Bowman a double after he scored on the Bart Cummings-trained Kroner.
