Three of the top four horses in betting for Saturday's Group One Sydney Cup face a weighty hurdle to win the gruelling staying test.

The in-form Zavite (58.5kg), 2008 winner No Wine No Song (58kg) and last start BMW winner Littorio (57.5kg) share the second line of TAB Sportsbet markets at $8 behind $7 favourite Precedence who has 54kg.

The last horse to win with more weight than Saturday's trio was My Good Man who lumped 60kg to victory 32 years ago.

Kevin Moses, trainer of No Wine No Song, was baffled when his charge was given 58kg and said it made the eight-year-old's task difficult.

"It's a concern. He carried 55.5 kilos when he won the Sydney Cup (in 2008), he hasn't won for two years and now he's gone up to 58," Moses said.

"I don't know how to work it out."

No Wine No Song has had just six starts since his Sydney Cup triumph with his career derailed by two tendon injuries to different legs.

Despite those setbacks he has been racing in great heart this campaign finishing fifth to Theseo in the Ranvet Stakes (2000m) and third to Littorio in The BMW (2400m), both at weight-for-age.

He had his final lead-up in the Chairman's Handicap running second to one of Saturday's rivals in the John O'Shea-trained Jessicabeel.

He gave her seven kilos in that race and meets her a kilo better on Saturday but Moses says it is still a big difference in weight.

"It makes it hard to sprint with other horses who have 52 and he's got 58, that's what beat him the other day," Moses said.

"Hopefully he can draw a nice barrier so he can just sit there and not have to do any work."

The final field and barrier draw for the Group One Sydney Cup (3200m) at Randwick will be declared on Wednesday.

Hugh Bowman will ride No Wine No Song while Damien Oliver will reunite with rejuvenated stayer Zavite.

Oliver has ridden the seven-year-old at his past three starts for wins in the Moonee Valley Night Cup and Group One Auckland Cup and a second in The BMW.

The champion jockey has also been booked to partner Zavite's Anthony Cummings-trained stablemate Road To Rock in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) after successfully being granted a release from Monaco Consul.

Oliver will be hoping he can collect at least one Group One victory for Cummings.

He finished a half neck second aboard Road To Rock in Saturday's Doncaster Mile won by Rangirangdoo but returned to scale more than a kilo overweight.

Stewards suspended him for three weeks with the penalty to begin after he rides at Randwick on Saturday.

Oliver is understandably keen to make amends.

"I'm on Zavite in the Cup and he's got a great chance so hopefully I can finish up on a good note," Oliver said.
