Queensland filly Emma's Heart hasn't figured in Golden Slipper discussions to date but trainer Bruce Brown is hopeful that is about to change.
Emma's Heart is still a maiden and unwanted, even with parochial Queenslanders, at $151 in early fixed-odds betting for the Group One Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on April 4.
However, Brown is optimistic the daughter of Lion Heart can book a place in the $3.5 million feature by winning Saturday's Group Two Magic Night Stakes over the Golden Slipper distance at Rosehill.
The winner of the Magic Night is exempt from any ballot on the Slipper.
Emma's Heart's departure to Sydney last week was delayed a couple of days and she didn't arrive at her Rosehill base until Saturday.
Brown said the filly came through the long float trip unscathed and had settled in well ahead of her Sydney debut.
"She's done a treat and has put on a bit of weight since she's been in Sydney," Brown said.
"She's the best horse I've ever travelled.
"Normally, horses can take up to three or four days before they settle in but she was right straight away.
"I've taken a few horses to Sydney including Calaway Gal who won the Golden Slipper but none have done as well as her."
Brown became the only Brisbane trainer to prepare a Golden Slipper winner when Calaway Gal scored in 2002.
Brown revealed Emma's Heart's trip south took almost 15 hours, two hours longer than normal due to a massive traffic jam getting from the Gold Coast racetrack to the Tweed Heads border.
Emma's Heart convinced Brown she was worthy of a Golden Slipper opportunity despite her defeat by Manhattan Angel over 1010 metres at Doomben 10 days ago.
"She was sandwiched attempting a run and was very unlucky last start," Brown said.
"By the time she got through the winner had skipped two lengths clear and she only just got beaten."
Brad Pengelly rode Emma's Heart's last start and when she finished third on debut at Eagle Farm last month but no rider is yet engaged for the Magic Night Stakes.
"I've spoken to a few jockeys but I haven't got a rider yet for the Magic Night," Brown said.
"I want the same rider for the Magic Night and the Golden Slipper so I'll probably wait until after acceptances to see who is available."
Brown will immediately spell Emma's Heart if she fails to qualify for the Golden Slipper.
"She's going to be a super three-year-old next season and if she doesn't win she'll go straight to the paddock and won't come back until she's three," he said.
"If she doesn't win I'd like to see her place as a black-type placing will be good for her broodmare value later on."
