Lightly-raced filly Ivory Pegasus has set herself up for an ambitious autumn campaign with victory at Randwick at her third start.

Trainer Robert Price believes the three-year-old has the potential to be a topliner over a distance and is daring to dream of the AJC Australian Oaks (2400m).

Ivory Pegasus is by Fusaichi Pegasus out of Red Ivory, a mare Price trained to win the 1999 Listed Australia Day Cup (2400m) and Group Three Frank Underwood Cup (2000m).

She was the subject of a betting plunge in Wednesday's Rose Bay Handicap (1100m) with $14 on offer before she was crunched in to start at $9.

"I don't punt so it wasn't my money but I did think she could win today," Price said.

"Race practice has helped her and now that she's won she can go on.

"An Oaks campaign has always been her goal.

"I wanted the same for her mother but she was always a bit behind as a young horse.

"I was planning to take Red Ivory to the South Australian Oaks but she never got there.

"But with this one I might aim a bit higher at the AJC Oaks.

"And I won't mind running second to Samantha Miss if that's where she goes."

Although she only beat Yau Chin by a short neck, Ivory Pegasus was strong at the finish and stuck to her task with determination.

Price has high hopes for Red Ivory as a broodmare.

"Fusaichi Pegasus is the best horse she has been served by," he said.

"I think that shows in this filly and will help her get over the longer distances."

Trainer Guy Walter is also looking to Emissary to develop into a staying type following her victory over 1800 metres in the Little Bay Handicap.

The four-year-old by Dehere is out of 1997 Metropolitan Handicap winner Heart Ruler who was raced by George Altimonte who also races her daughter.

"We always hoped she would run a journey and today indicates that she can," Walter said.

"She is only lightly raced and has a beautiful temperament, the right temperament to be a stayer.

"Whether it is this preparation or next, we'll have to wait and see."

Lucky Thirteen proved just that for Danny Nikolic when he broke a winning drought on the Kris Lees-trained mare in the Bronte Handicap (1400m).

Nikolic had had 50 metropolitan rides without a winner before Lucky Thirteen scored.
