A decision on whether Melito takes on More Joyous in the Breeders Classic this weekend will be made on Tuesday morning.

The 1200m Group Two mares race boasts 17 nominations including Montana Flyer who has beaten her Gai Waterhouse-trained stablemate More Joyous in two recent barrier trials.

Waterhouse is confident More Joyous will bring her best to race day while Melito's trainer Gerald Ryan believes the reigning NSW Horse of the Year can bounce back from a disappointing spring.

"I'll make up my mind after she works on Tuesday morning," Ryan said.

"If I don't think she's ready for the Breeders she will go to the Triscay Stakes the following week.

"The Breeders is an attractive race because the Group One winners get in well at the set weights and penalties."

As dual Group One winners, both More Joyous and Melito will carry 57.5kg under the conditions of the race while Myer Classic winner Sacred Choice and her stablemate, Queensland Oaks winner Miss Keepsake, get in with half a kilo less.

With regular partner Corey Brown in Melbourne to ride Shocking in the C F Orr Stakes, Hugh Bowman will ride Melito if she runs in the Breeders and will be aboard stablemate Strawberry Field if the decision is to wait another week.

Melito had just two starts in the spring, finishing fifth on both occasions behind star sprinter Black Caviar.

She pleased Ryan with a barrier trial win last week in which Strawberry Field finished third.

"Maybe she is a better autumn and winter horse or maybe the hard campaign took its toll in a way we couldn't see," Ryan said.

After claiming her maiden Group One victory in the TJ Smith at Randwick on April 10, Melito ran second to Hot Danish in the All Aged Stakes two weeks later.

On May 15 she began a four-start Brisbane campaign when second in the BTC Cup, third in the Doomben 10,000 and second in the Stradbroke Handicap before her all-the-way victory in the Winter Stakes to earn the title as NSW champion.

More Joyous won four of her five starts in the spring including the George Main Stakes and Toorak Handicap at Group One level.

Ryan is also looking forward to the debut of two-year-old Fast Shanti in the Widden Stakes (1100m).

He has also entered Hollyweird as a precaution against wet weather again postponing the Chairman's Stakes in Melbourne.

The race was one of three transferred from Saturday's washed out meeting at Caulfield to Sandown on Wednesday.

A full sister to Group winner Rothesay, Fast Shanti also won a barrier trial last week with Brown aboard but will be ridden by Tim Clark in the Widden.

Stablemate Rock Monster will be ridden by Bowman in the Canonbury Stakes for two-year-old colts and geldings.
