Coffs Harbour trainer Trevor Hardy is looking forward to a profitable campaign with his quality sprinter Symposium but the veteran horseman is equally content to play the waiting game.

Hardy pulled off a training coup at Eagle Farm on Saturday when Symposium returned to racing in fine fashion with an authoritative win in the $50,000 KFC Handicap (1300m).

The trainer formulated the plan for a first-up assault a couple of months ago and he has had the five-year-old in work since the first week of December.

His judgment was proved spot-on when Symposium ($8), aided by a copybook Jason Taylor ride, overcame a traffic jam at the top of the straight to record a neck win over Felony Flight ($13).

Pacemaker God's Window ($6.50) ran well after setting a solid clip throughout to finish a length and a quarter back third.

Hardy said he was confident Symposium was fit enough to perform well at his first run since October last year and he was looking forward to a profitable campaign.

"I set him for Eagle Farm because he loves the long straight. He had done plenty of work and I set him for this race two months ago," Hardy said.

"He's a very talented racehorse but he goes best when his races are spaced. I'll take him along steadily and let him get over this one before I decide what to do with him next.

"The options are endless for him in the next few months and I am hoping he might measure up to a good sprint race during the winter carnival."

Taylor was full of praise for Symposium and Hardy's training performance.

"Trevor said he was very fit and that he had done a lot of work getting ready," Taylor said.

"The horse raced exactly how Trevor said he would and I was confident throughout. He found the line well once we got clear and he will win more races."
