Queensland Racing Limited stewards have officially lodged an appeal against the recent overturning of a two-month suspension handed down to Sydney apprentice Daniel Ganderton.

Stewards are also in the process of filing an appeal against jockey Ric McMahon who had a three-month suspension upheld by Queensland's first-level appeal body last week.

No dates have yet been determined for the stewards' appeals which will be heard by the Queensland Civil Administration Tribunal.

Chief steward Wade Birch said if the tribunal found in favour of the stewards neither rider could appeal further.

"We filed an application earlier this week appealing the Ganderton case and we expect to file the appeal in McMahon's case some time in the next day or two," Birch said.

"The only way the next decision can be overturned is if there is a dispute in a point of law and that would have to be heard by a court."

Ganderton was suspended for two months by Queensland stewards following his ride on Deer Valley at the Gold Coast on January 2.

Stewards found the 21-year-old apprentice guilty of failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to give the Steele Ryan-trained Deer Valley every chance when she finished sixth to the Gillian Heinrich-trained Sweepstaking.

Stewards were concerned with Ganderton's failure to improve his position on Deer Valley at the 700 metres when she was 12 lengths off the leaders, and from the 600 metres - when she was a clear last - to the 400 metres.

Ganderton scored one of the biggest wins of his short career on Deer Valley when she won the Group Three Silver Shadow Stakes at Randwick in August when trained by Chris Waller.

Queensland's racing appeals body upheld McMahon's appeal against a three month suspension for improper riding on Haslington at the Gold Coast on Boxing Day.

The John Morrisey-trained Haslington finished third to Coming Up Trumps in a 1400-metre maiden.

Stewards expressed concern that McMahon allowed Haslington to shift away from the inside rail which gave Coming Up Trumps a run to his inside.

Haslington was beaten by just over a length.
