Apprentice Blake Spriggs plans to divide his time between Newcastle and Sydney after ending his full-time association with Tulloch Lodge.

Spriggs has had his indentures transferred from trainer Gai Waterhouse to Newcastle-based Jason Deamer.

The 18-year-old rode work at Broadmeadow on Monday morning but plans to front up for trackwork in Sydney on Tuesday ahead of taking Rosehill barrier trial rides.

"Blake still plans to ride one morning's work each week for Gai as well as other Sydney trainers," Deamer said.

Spriggs, who started his apprenticeship at Newcastle with Steve Hodge, is hoping to reignite is career under the guidance of Deamer and new riding agent Glenn Darcy.

Darcy's stable includes Group One riders Nash Rawiller and Kerrin McEvoy.

Spriggs linked with Tulloch Lodge in June and created an immediate impression when he rode five winners at Rosehill on July 17.

Deamer said Spriggs's opportunities had dwindled since his city claim was reduced to 2kg.

"Since he lost his three kilo allowance he hasn't been getting the same number of rides," Deamer said.

"Riding work for a few more trainers should result in more opportunities."

Waterhouse said Spriggs was a genuine talent.

"He is a natural lightweight and horses travel for him," she wrote on her website.

Spriggs is fifth in the Sydney apprentices' title for 2010-2011 with 9-1/2 winners, 5-1/2 behind the leader Josh Adams.
