Trainer Gerald Ryan is unsure where Intertidal ranks among this season's two-year-olds but knows he will be much wiser after Saturday's Silver Slipper.

The winner of two of his three starts, Intertidal will step up a grade into the Group Two feature off a barrier trial win on Friday.

The winner of the Silver Slipper (1100m) gains automatic entry into the $3.5 million Golden Slipper (1200m) on Easter Saturday.

Among Intertidal's opposition in the Silver Slipper will be Chance Bye, an imposing winner of her only two starts.

Chance Bye's two wins have come in restricted William Inglis sales races and her prizemoney doesn't count towards a Slipper berth.

Intertidal has earned $137,300 which would get him into the Slipper but he needs to prove himself worthy.

"I don't know where his level is," Ryan said.

"We'll run him on Saturday and find out.

"The 1100 metres might be a fraction short but he trialled nicely on Friday so things look good."

Intertidal has not raced since October 31 when he overcame a messy start to beat Divorces by a short head.

He is a son of Snitzel who Ryan trained to win the 2006 Oakleigh Plate as a three-year-old.

Snitzel started favourite in the 2005 Golden Slipper but had a chequered run and finished 12th of the 16 runners.

Ryan also trained Intertidal's dam Miss Rainmaker who only started four times for two wins over 1000 and 1100 metres.

Miss Rainmaker's sire is Hurricane Sky who Ryan trained to win the 1994 Blue Diamond Stakes.

Ryan's other leading Golden Slipper contender Hinchinbrook will have his next start in the Skyline Stakes at Randwick on March 13.

Hinchinbrook won the Canonbury Stakes on debut on February 13 but Ryan said he found it hard to get a line on his potential.

"He is a lazy track worker so it's hard to know," he said.

"He just won't work but he pulls it out on race day."

The closest Ryan has come to training a Slipper winner was in 1995 when Paint finished a gallant second to Merlene.

Hinchinbrook is a $15 chance in TAB Sportsbet's Golden Slipper market while Intertidal is at $16.

Blue Diamond Stakes third placegetter Beneteau remains at $7 favourite ahead of Solar Charged at $8.
