John Wallace will give star four-year-old Shoot Out his first look at Moonee Valley on Tuesday morning ahead of Saturday's Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes.

While the trainer has no qualms about Shoot Out safely navigating one of the tightest metropolitan tracks in Australia, Tuesday's workout will nevertheless be a vital reconnaissance mission for the Cox Plate-bound galloper.

Track rider Dan Wheeler, as usual, will be aboard Shoot Out for the course proper work-out.

"We're taking him over to the Valley (from nearby Flemington where he is stabled) in the morning to give him a look at it," Wallace said.

"He seems to handle most tracks.

"He's really good, he's done a treat."

The Group Two Dato Tan Chin Nam (1600m) attracted 16 nominations including last year's winner Whobegotyou and newly-crowned horse-of-the-year Typhoon Tracy who was also entered for Saturday's Group Two Stocks Stakes (1600m) at weight-for-age for mares.

However reigning Cox Plate winner So You Think was not among the Dato Tan Chin Nam nominations with Bart Cummings preferring to wait for the Group One Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on Saturday week.

Wallace is looking forward to the challenge of meeting Whobegotyou and Typhoon Tracy again after he split that pair when third in the Memsie Stakes (1400m) behind So You Think at Caulfield last Saturday week.

"I think he was a victim of circumstances but he hit the line well anyway," Wallace said of the High Chaparral gelding's Memsie placing after he was trapped wide.

Wallace said Shoot Out was looking for 1600 metres at this stage of his preparation, having had three runs in at 1200 and 1400 metres (twice).

He ruled out a start for the AJC Australian Derby winner in the Underwood.

"I'm not sure where I'll go with him next. He could run in the JRA Cup, he'd get 60 kilos but it wouldn't have as much depth," Wallace said.

The JRA Cup (2040m) is a quality handicap with a maximum topweight of 60kg run at the Manikato Stakes night meeting at Moonee Valley on September 24.

Shoot Out is currently $7 second pick for the Cox Plate with TAB Sportsbet behind So You Think at $4.

Whobegotyou is third pick at $10 while Typhoon Tracy is at $21.

The Cummings stable will gallop So You Think and six other horses at Moonee Valley including Dato Tan Chin Nam entries Brightnight, Precedence and Sirmione, as well as VRC Oaks winner Faint Perfume who has been nominated for the Stocks Stakes.

Peter Moody also entered Typhoon Tracy's stablemate Ghostmilk for the Stocks with the Tony Vasil-trained VRC Oaks runner-up Valdemoro also among the 26 nominations for that event.

Buccellati, Zabrasive and La Rocket are other Dato Tan Chin Nam entries who will work at Moonee Valley on Tuesday morning.

The Cummings stable also has Brightnight, Moatize and Precedence nominated for the 1500m handicap while Extra Zero, Lords Ransom, Grand Ducal and Rundle are dual nominated.
