Queenslander Shoot Out has been ruled out of next year's Sydney autumn carnival.

Shoot Out hit the big time when he claimed the Group One AJC Australian Derby and Randwick Guineas in Sydney earlier this year.

But after an arduous Melbourne spring campaign the gelding will bypass the autumn and be saved for the Brisbane winter.

Trainer John Wallace said he had spoken with Shoot Out's owners Graham and Linda Huddy and decided that a decent spell was the best thing for the horse.

"He'll come into my place in early January and he'll do his racing in the winter here (in Queensland)," Wallace told Sydney's Sky Sports Radio.

"He won't have a lot of starts and then we'll go to Melbourne again (next spring).

"He had a pretty long preparation in Melbourne and I just thought the longer the spell the better."

Shoot Out's main Queensland targets will be the Group Two Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast and then the Group One Doomben Cup (2020m).

The winner of seven of his 19 starts, Shoot Out raced eight times in Melbourne last preparation including finishing fourth in the Cox Plate and 13th in the Melbourne Cup.

He had started his campaign with back-to-back wins in the Bletchingly Stakes and Liston Stakes.
