Mick Price says he doesn't want to see Secret Hills leading when he tries for his first city win at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

The Starcraft two-year-old was in the firing line throughout when he won by 1-3/4 lengths from Revitalise over 1000m at Bendigo when resuming at his second start on June 2.

At his debut he finished eighth of nine to subsequent Blue Diamond Stakes and Golden Slipper Stakes winner Sepoy in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) at Caulfield on January 26.

He was beaten 11 lengths that day but there were excuses as stewards said the gelding sprawled on jumping away and quartered his off-fore heel.

Craig Newitt stays with Secret Hills who drew barrier five in a field of 12 for the Echuca Workers and Services Club Hcp (1200m).

"He's going well but I don't want him to lead in that race," Price said.

"We have spent a bit of time sitting him off. I'm really happy with him.

"I just want him to have a nice run in the race and he'll be hard to beat."

Secret Hills is out of the Danehill mare Hill Of Peace who was a winner at two at 2000m in France.

"He's bred to get a lot further," Price said.

"That put me off him as a yearling but (owner) Andrew Ramsden liked him and wanted to buy him and thank God he did.

"I like the horse but I didn't like the page on the mother's side though as he didn't look like a staying type of horse."

Secret Hills is from the same family as dual Group Three Curragh Cup winner Mkuzi, Garnica, a multiple Group Three winner in France, and Alliteration, a Listed winner in France.

Secret Hills is $5.50 second pick with TAB Sportsbet behind the Anthony Cummings-trained Upbeat ($3.50 fav) who was an impressive six-length winner over 1225m in a Kyneton maiden in heavy going at his third start on May 24.
