Magic Millions placegetter Schiffer continued her spring build-up with a barrier trial win at Hawkesbury on Monday.

The Gerald Ryan-trained filly hasn't raced since her third to Karuta Queen in the $2 million Gold Coast feature in January.

Karuta Queen signalled she was back with a vengeance with an eight-length win in a trial at Canberra on Sunday.

Ryan took Schiffer and unraced stablemate Fast Shanti to Hawkesbury believing it would be a better surface than Sydney's trial tracks which have been subjected to rain and wear and tear in recent weeks.

Fast Shanti also won her heat with both fillies ridden by Brenton Avdulla.

"Both of them went really well and I was very pleased with them," Ryan said.

"Schiffer settled today and we are hoping she can run a journey.

"She will start in the Rosebud qualifier at Warwick Farm on Saturday week while Fast Shanti will begin her career in a midweek race.

Schiffer is by Group One-winning sprinter Snitzel who Ryan trained to win the 2006 Oakleigh Plate but has a stamina injection on her dam's side from Montjeu mare Modave.

The winners of the two Rosebud qualifiers are exempt from a ballot in the Listed Rosebud on August 6.

The four-race Princess Series culminating in the Group One Flight Stakes is among the options for both fillies.

Their now retired dual Group One-winning stablemate Melito competed in the 2009 Princess Series, winning one leg, the Group Two Furious Stakes and running second in two others before her fourth in the Flight.

The decision to end Melito's career was made earlier this year and Ryan took the opportunity on Monday to call in and see her on his way back from Hawkesbury.

"She's at John Ripon's Reavill Farm and looks great," he said.

"I was happy to see her and she was happy to see me."
