Brisbane Cup runner-up Ready To Lift has gone to the paddock for a well earned break with trainer Gerald Ryan targeting Group One riches in the spring.

The mare was gallant behind Scenic Shot in Saturday's Group Two feature and will be aimed at the Metropolitan Handicap (2400m) in October.

"She tried her heart out," Ryan said.

"We wanted to win but you couldn't be disappointed in her and the winner was just too good.

"He carried the big weight on the wet track and she did her best."

Ryan said the Melbourne Cup was on the agenda but he would resist the temptation to run the mare in the Caulfield Cup.

"I think the Metropolitan then the Moonee Valley Cup on Cox Plate day is the best way to go to the Melbourne Cup," he said.

"The Caulfield Cup is just a week after the Metropolitan and that makes it tough."

While he has farewelled Ready To Lift for the time being, Ryan has welcomed Silver Slipper winner Melito back to his Rosehill stable.

The filly was uncomfortable on the wet track when eighth in the Golden Slipper and was immediately spelled.

"She has come back much more mature," Ryan said.

"She's put on about 50 kilos and looks a lot stronger.

"The Princess Series in the spring will be her aim.

"I brought her back to the stable a bit earlier than some of the others because she was forward enough and it gives us a bit more room to move."

The four-race Princess Series culminates in the Group One Flight Stakes on October 3.

The now retired Samantha Miss made a clean sweep of the 2008 Princess Series becoming the first filly since Angst in 1993 to do so.
