Redangelo's immediate future will be decided when he faces a class drop to midweek grade at Sandown on Wednesday.

The Testa Rossa colt is topweight with 59kg in the Schweppes Hcp (1200m) in which he will be ridden by Dwayne Dunn.

"He's running for staying in work running into the spring or going to the paddock and being gelded," Mathew Ellerton, who co-trains Redangelo with Simon Zahra, said.

Redangelo has had two starts so far this preparation, running seventh to Sepoy in the Listed Vain Stakes (1100m) and ninth to Golden Archer in the Group Three McNeil Stakes (1200m), both at Caulfield last month.

"We were prepared to forgive his run first-up, but he just followed them around last start and didn't do much," Ellerton said.

"The blinkers go on tomorrow and if he doesn't perform he goes out.

"He's obviously got the ability but if he doesn't show it he'll be gelded."

Redangelo showed ability early in his career, running third to Holdontoyahorses over 1100m at Caulfield and then winning narrowly over Bladon and Chateauneuf Dupape over 1200m at Flemington, both in January.

After finishing seventh to Avenay in the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) at Flemington in February he was second to Rockshaft in the Group Three Breeders' Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville in March before being spelled.

The Ellerton-Zahra stable did not pay up for Redangelo as a first acceptor on Tuesday for the $1 million Caulfield Guineas.

However Sandown runners Niconoise, Unpretentious, General Offer and Hludowig remain in the Guineas.

There are 11 winners in the 12-horse field for Wednesday's race and six of them are last-start winners - Unpretentious, Hludowig, The Kitkat Kid, Zuckerberg, Heeza Bonza and Railblazer.

Bel Esprit gelding Hludowig, from the Greg Eurell stable, was spelled after his impressive six-length victory on debut on a heavy track in a Two-Year-Old Maiden at Kyneton in May.

The David Hayes-trained Niconoise, a Redoute's Choice half-brother to Group One winners Niconero and Nicconi, is on a Caulfield Guineas path.

He won by 3-1/4 lengths on debut in a Three-Year-old Hcp over 1200m at Morphettville before running seventh to Amah Rock in the Listed Mitchell McKenzie Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley, both last month.

Unpretentious, a Stratum gelding prepared by Nikki Burke, scored by 2-1/2 lengths over 1100m at Sale at his only appearance while Gonski gelding The Kitkat Kid, trained by Robert Smerdon, won an 1100m maiden on the Geelong synthetic track by 3-1/2 lengths.

The Bennie Benbow-trained Heeza Bonza won by 4-1/4 lengths at his second outing in an Echuca Maiden (1200m) last month while the Anthony Freedman-trained Zuckerberg impressed when coming from last to win over 1000m on the Geelong synthetic track on debut last month.
