Phenomenal Lass is a doubtful starter for Wednesday's Listed Baillieu Handicap at Randwick with trainer Paul Murray concerned about running the filly on a wet track.

Murray also isn't happy that Phenomenal Lass has topweight of 57kg and believes the Peter Snowden-trained Purdey has got off lightly with 56.5kg.

Purdey comes into the race after running third to Golden Slipper favourite Real Saga in the Group Three Todman Stakes at Rosehill on March 21.

"He also ran a nose second to Wanted in the Group Three Kindergarten Stakes, so I can't work these weights out," Murray said.

"We are being cruelled for winning a couple of Saturday races."

Track manager Dave Hodgson said the Kensington surface was a dead five on Tuesday with nine millimetres of rain falling this week, but with heavy rain forecast overnight and on race day things are not looking good that the South Coast horse will run in the 1400-metre race.

"It's only been light stuff so far but it's full-on rain that's coming, we'll just have to wait and see how hard it is," Hodgson said.

Murray said Phenomenal Lass, who has two wins from five starts, wouldn't run if the track deteriorated.

"If it gets around the slow six mark we won't run her," he said.

"And if we don't run her we might have to send her to the paddock because she would need to have another run under her belt before the Sires."

Phenomenal Lass has come through a torrid run in the Group Two Reisling Stakes at Rosehill on March 21 when she finished eighth to More Joyous.

"She got checked in the run and had a pretty tough run but she's done very well since and if she does run in the Baillieu she will go very well," Murray said.

Kathy O'Hara takes over on Phenomenal Lass who is usually ridden by Glyn Schofield who is riding Smart Lady for trainer David Payne.
