Three-time Melbourne Cup winning jockey Jim Johnson is one of seven inductees to the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.

Two jockeys, two trainers, two horses and one associate will be officially installed next week in conjunction with the Australian Horse of the Year awards in Melbourne.

Along with Johnson, Harold Badger, winner of six Melbourne premierships between 1938 and 1948 will be inducted in the jockeys' category.

The trainers are Bayly Payten, the winner of seven Sydney premierships in the 1940s and Jack Green who prepared Baystone to win the 1958 Melbourne Cup.

The two horses are 1983 Cox Plate winner Strawberry Road and 1950 Melbourne Cup winner Comic Court who was trained by Jim Cummings, father of Hall of Fame Legend Bart Cummings.

Respected racing journalist Bill Whittaker has been honoured in the Associate category.

A public vote will determine which of four nominated members of the Hall of Fame will be elevated to Legend status alongside Bart Cummings and Phar Lap.

The finalists are trainer TJ Smith, jockey Scobie Breasley, three time Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva and Carbine, champion of the late 19th century.
