The funeral for champion jockey Roy Higgins will be held this Thursday at Flemington, the scene of many of his greatest racing triumphs. Higgins’ family announced today that the funeral service for the Hall Of Fame jockey will be held at Flemington, beginning at 1pm. The service will be conducted in the mounting yard and the hearse will do a lap of the Flemington track. All members of the racing community and beyond are welcome to pay tribute to Higgins, an iconic Australian identity. Higgins, 75, died on Saturday in a Brighton Hospital after a short illness. Higgins' family has requested that donations be made  to the National Jockeys Trust in lieu of flowers. During an incomparable career Higgins won two Melbourne Cups - Light Fingers and Red Handed - as well as seven VRC Sires Produce Stakes, five VRC Oaks and four VRC Derbys at Flemington.
