Joe Pride has carved a niche as a trainer who can rejuvenate older horses and Bryannbo's Gift is his latest challenge.

The six-year-old will have his first start for Pride in a 1200m Open Handicap at Randwick on Saturday when he will clash with stablemate Bejewelled.

The speedy Black Prince, also nominated for the race, will bypass Randwick in favour of Scone on Friday.

Vision And Power is the best advertisement of Pride's skills in turning around the form of tried horses, posting successive Group One wins in the George Ryder Stakes and Doncaster Mile last autumn.

De Lightning Ridge has also flourished under Pride, claiming the Group Two Challenge Stakes in track record time in March, while Sophistication has won four of his nine starts since arriving at the stable last year.

The beautifully-bred Bryannbo's Gift, by outstanding sire Zabeel out of 1999 Oakleigh Plate winner Dantelah, has always shown ability but his career has been limited to just 17 starts.

He has not raced since ending his spring campaign in Melbourne with an unplaced run in Group Three company on Sandown Guineas day last year.

Pride has been impressed with how he has settled into his Warwick Farm stable and won't be surprised to see him run a cheeky race on Saturday.

"On his best form he is a good horse and I'm happy to get him," Pride said.

"He's only been with me for six weeks but I've been very pleased with him, he's a nice horse, he works well and although he is still an entire he's not a handful to handle.

"He seems to be enjoying himself and his first-up form is pretty good so he should run well."

Bryannbo's Gift has never missed a place in four first-up runs and was second in a recent barrier trial to the Gary Portelli-trained Gold Trail who will run in Sunday's Group One KrisFlyer International Sprint in Singapore.

Bryannbo's Gift has been nominated for next month's Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm but Pride said he would have to perform "very well to end up there".

Peter Robl will ride Bryannbo's Gift while apprentice Tommy Berry will partner Bejewelled who is returning from a let-up after racing competitively in the early part of the Sydney autumn carnival.

She will be retired to stud after her current campaign which could include a trip to Brisbane.

"She will start on Saturday but historically she seems to need her first run back," Pride said.

"She is a good mare on the back-up and we might look to take her up for a Group Three race in Brisbane a week later."

Pride will head to Randwick in good form after celebrating a winning treble at Canterbury on Tuesday.
