Epsom Handicap hopeful Bryannbo's Gift is expected to make significant improvement under Jim Cassidy in Saturday's Group Two Theo Marks Stakes.
The six-year-old is backing up in the 1400 metre race at Rosehill a week after running eighth to Rangirangdoo in the Tramway Handicap over the same distance at Randwick.
Trainer Ann-Marie Ruttley wasn't happy to see apprentice Daniel Ganderton place Bryannbo's Gift in second spot without cover for most of the Tramway.
"I wanted him back with cover," Ruttley said.
"To be outside the leader in a high pressure race wasn't right for him and I was pretty disappointed."
A strong performance on Saturday means Bryannbo's Gift will head to the Group Three Bill Ritchie Handicap (1400m) on September 26.
He will then be aimed at the Group One Epsom Handicap (1600m) a week later.
"The horse is really well and I'm pretty happy about having Jim Cassidy back on him, the plan is for him to ride through until the Epsom," Ruttley said.
Bryannbo's Gift produced an impressive first-up run in the Listed Show County (1200m) on August 22 with Corey Brown in the saddle.
The lightly-raced entire was close to midfield throughout before letting down nicely and finishing two lengths second to Swift Alliance.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained Swift Alliance followed that win with victory in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (1200m) at Flemington last Saturday.
"Jim will get him some cover and have him back a bit further and you should see him finishing well," Ruttley said.
"I'm expecting him to run a nice race."
Cassidy has had one previous ride on Bryannbo's Gift in March when he finished a half length second to Solo Flyer over 1200 metres at Randwick.
Solo Flyer went on to win the Group Three Newmarket at Newcastle and the Group Two Ajax Stakes at Rosehill at his next two starts.
Ruttley believes stablemate Mr Vincent can atone for his poor showing at Randwick on August 25 when he was eighth to Madibagold.
Mr Vincent runs in the Grand Pavilion Handicap (1500m).
Prior to his last start, Mr Vincent won successive races at Kembla and Randwick.
"He probably got back too far," Ruttley said.
"He did a lot of work with a heavy weight (59.5kg) last start and couldn't pick up.
"But he's as good as I can get him for Saturday."
Five-year-old Mr Vincent, who is by Galileo, has three wins from five starts.
