A set of scales will tell trainer Robert Price if his best-laid plans for out-of-form sprinter Kroner are thwarted at the 11th hour.

Price said he had identified Tuesday's St Johns Park Handicap (1100m) at Warwick Farm as the right race to help Kroner salvage something out of frustrating career.

"I picked this race out ages ago for him," Price said.

But much to Price's frustration, the seven-year-old has been enjoying too much of the good life while the trainer took a short holiday.

"He's got a tremendous appetite and he put on seven kilos in the week I was away," Price said.

"It's a shame because I thought I had him right and the heavy track is well and truly in his favour.

"I'll weigh him again closer to scratching time and if he hasn't lost a bit then I'll probably scratch him."

A weight-for-age winner earlier in his career when under the care of Bart Cummings, it has been two years since the gelding has shown any worthwhile form.

"When he dead-heated with Mentality in the (weight-for-age) Premiere Stakes he was having a real good run of form," Price said.

Transferred to south coast-based Price's stables for a sand and surf regime to help combat unsoundness, Kroner has since developed breathing issues.

"While I managed to keep him sound he still lost all form," Price said.

"We couldn't work it out. It didn't add up but it turned out he had a partially upper airway collapse.

"He's had the treatment so now we'll just have to wait and see if it works."

Kroner drops to midweek class with a 3kg claim for apprentice Sam Clipperton after finishing 8th of 10 to Master Of Design at Rosehill on July 16.

"Saturday class is just too hard for him now but the Warwick Farm race looks the right one for him - if I can get him there."

Warwick Farm was rated well into the heavy range on Monday with officials deciding to keep the rail in the normal position after Saturday's Warwick Stakes meeting.
