Gold Coast trainer Bruce Hill believes the signs are positive for a strong showing from new stable acquisition Racing Pegasus at Doomben.
Racing Pegasus will have her first start for Hill in Wednesday's Darley Australia Handicap (1110m) after winning two of her five starts when under the care of Eagle Farm trainer Barry Baldwin.
Baldwin rated the daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus as one of his stable stars when she was a two-year-old following two wins at Doomben in December 2008.
The wins catapulted her into contention for last year's Magic Millions Classic (1200m) but injury, which later required surgery, ruined her chances in the Gold Coast feature when she finished among the tailenders to Phelan Ready.
Racing Pegasus had bone chips in both front joints removed during subsequent surgery and had more than a year off before failing badly in her comeback at Doomben on February 6.
After winning a Deagon barrier trial 10 days later, Baldwin hoped she had recovered fully before she again finished last, almost 25 lengths behind the winner Our Mr Cashman at Doomben on February 20.
Racing Pegasus was then transferred to Hill's stable where she has been for the past two months and has shown positive signs she could be on the way back.
"She ran third in a barrier trial at the Gold Coast two weeks ago and ever since then her work has gone up a cog," Hill said.
"She always had plenty of ability when she was with Barry but I'm not sure how she'll go tomorrow.
"A bit of rain would be nice. Her work was only fair before she trialled but she's really coming along nicely now.
"If she races up to her trial and recent work she'll run a good race."
Hill believes Racing Pegasus can measure up to Saturday class and possibly the Brisbane winter carnival if she can rediscover her best form.
Baldwin always believed Racing Pegasus had the scope to run 1600 metres and was considering aiming her for the Group Two Queensland Guineas at Eagle Farm in June if she returned to her best.
